“Tremulous Balance”

mixed media assemblage on birch blocks, 16″ x 20″ x 3″The natural world is a miracle of adaptation, left to its own devices. The trees of the maritime forest learned to adapt to wind and salt spray. The ingenious lichens (who often make a home on the bark of mature trees or on their fallen branches and leaves) found survival through symbiosis: different organisms drawing together to create a mini-environment that allows them to thrive anywhere—even in outer space! Can we find a tremulous balance with our natural world to preserve what depends on our good will for its continued presence among us?
