On a misty day, even a small swath of maritime forest can body forth the illusion of its majestic, mysterious past. Sadly, this photograph is the last evidence of this stand of trees in its healthy state; days after I took the photograph, a waterspout damaged the trees so severely that many were cut down to avoid endangering residents of nearby homes.
