“Ghost Forest”

Usually, the term “ghost forest” refers to trees killed by earth movements or rising water levels but which continue to stand, leafless and lifeless, sometimes for many years. This particular stand of trees had its tops shirred off by a fierce waterspout that lifted off Currituck Sound during a 2020 storm and raged close to the waterline.
